Cleaning
For cleaning I recommend the O-Cel-O Dishwand filled with Ivory Dish Soap. These are both readily available at Target, Walmart and most local grocery stores. There are many ways to clean the wheel, just be sure not to use anything abrasive for cleaning and please do not get the rollerblade wheel bearings wet while cleaning!
Wheel FAQ
Q) What's the difference in the two wheels you have for sale?
A) This link should help
http://hedgehogcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12428&start=0
Q) What are the zip ties/plastic things that came with the wheel for?
A) They are spares, so if one ever breaks on the wheel you have a replacement.
Q) The legs/feet on the stand are uneven how can I fix this?
A) The PVC and fittings are not glued so with a little force and play you can position the legs/feet back even.
Q) How do you tilt the wheel?
A) Hold the feet of the stand down with one arm, now grab the top arm (the PVC piece with the holes drilled in it) and pull or push in desired direction for the running angle that best suits your hog. Nothing is glued, sometimes it may take a little force and play to get it just right.
Q) I took my wheel apart for cleaning and forgot how it was suppose to go back together?
A) Take the long carriage bolt and run it through the inside of the wheel......now take the small nut and run it down the bolt till it's tite against the rollerblade wheel........now add a washer..........next the pvc arm peice in desired hole........now another washer..............finish with the wing nut.
Q) Do the nuts ever need to be tightened?
A) Yes, it's best to tighten both nuts, the small one against the roller blade and the wing nut, once a week.
Q) I got the bearings wet and the wheel has gotten loud?
A) If the bearings have gotten wet you can try putting a glob of Vaseline on the bearing and use a hair dryer to melt the Vaseline into the bearing. Turn it while heating. After one side is done do the other. Sometimes a little veg. oil will work just as well.
Q) My wheel has gotten loud, what can I do?
A) Make sure all the nuts are tightened and everything is in order. Now give the wheel a spin. Do you hear anything? If so it's most likely a bad bearing, see above for ways to fix it. If you hear nothing it could be from uneven feet on the stand, check them. Could also be from the hog running so hard the wheel is bouncing around or just causing a vibration. If so try securing the wheel to the cage with zip ties or something of that sort. Could be the cage itself, some cage floors are not perfectly flat, if so you can try fleece or something of that sort to level it up.
Q) Any tips for keeping the bearing from getting wet while cleaning?
A) Take your time and dry well. A piece of duct tape over the bolt and zip tie area works very well too, just be sure to remove it.
